Popular Wedding Parent Dance Songs

1332390DSCF4134

When you go over your music ideas, song list and details of your wedding with your bandleader or DJ, he/she will ask you about parent dance songs.  Part of the ceremony or formality of a wedding reception is for the bride and groom to dance with their parents – the bride dances with her dad (father/daughter dance) and the groom dances with his mom (mother/son dance).  There are exceptions to this as when a parent is deceased.  In that case, an aunt or uncle or a brother or sister sometimes is a comforting substitute.  Below are some suggestions for parent dance songs.  In some cases the gender is obvious as in “My Girl” by The Temptations or “Father Daughter” by Paul Simon.  Some songs you just have to listen to or read the lyrics to make that determination.  Other songs are gender neutral such as “What A Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong.  It’s always a good idea to speak to your bandleader or DJ to find out if he/she has some favorites.  This is a list we came up with by interviewing some New York Wedding bands and DJs in NY.

First Dance Wedding Songs/Music

DSCF0707

Before you get married you will have a chance to choose your first dance song.  This is the song you dance to with your spouse for the first time as husband and wife.  There are many considerations:

Are you going to take dance lessons?

Do you have a song that has special meaning to both of you?

Will you choose a contemporary song (Ed Sheerin, Adele) or a traditional song (Frank Sinatra/Tony Bennett)?

Do you want to dance the whole song alone or add the guests in the middle of the song?

We have compiled this list from hundreds of weddings we have performed at.  It is as varied as the brides and grooms we have played for.  There are songs from a variety of artists ranging from Taylor Swift to James Brown, Michael Buble to Keith Urban, Elvis Presley to Sade and The Goo Goo Dolls to Camera Obscura.  It’s your wedding and anything goes.

Welcome 2015 Wedding!

cpc 1089

New York Orchestras’ band Central Park Orchestra played in 2015 with a wedding at the Ridgewood Country Club in New Jersey.  The first songs the band played after the stroke of midnight were “Could You Be Loved”, a Bob Marley classic.  The theme of this reggae classic started everyone off in a great mood!  How could you not sing along with the chorus of that song? Then, it got funky with “Uptown Funk”, the latest hit from Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson.  The band’s 3-piece horn section really kicked this song into high gear!

Earlier in the evening the bride and groom, Jennifer and Brandon, entered the ballroom to “Signed Sealed Delivered” then danced their first dance “Mean To Me” by country artist Brett Eldredge. They took dance lessons so they danced the whole song alone (no guests invited).  “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift got the dance floor packed immediately after the first dance. “When all the people on the dance floor are singing, you know you’re playing the right song. It was actually the bride’s choice”, says bandleader Bill.

This couple had an eclectic mix of song choices.  The bride danced with her dad, a country club member, to “Something About The Way You Look Tonight” by Elton John.  The guests were taken by surprise when the father/daughter dance segued into “Happy” by Pharrell Williams.  The song for Brandon and his mom was “93 Million Miles” a Jason Mraz song.

The guests will never forget this wedding.  It was exciting fun on New Year’s Eve, dancing all night, balloon drop at midnight and breakfast-to-go on the way out.  Awesome!”

Jennifer and Brandon are now on their way to the beautiful Caribbean island of Nevis.

A special thank you to the warm staff at Ridgewood Country Club especially to the catering manager Victoria.

Krista said…Simply the BEST! I have tears in my eyes writing this review- that is how amazing they are. First let me start by saying Bill is INCREDIBLE!  What a pleasure to deal with, even my venue noticed this after my big day. We hired Central Park Orchestra for our wedding and also one of Bill’s DJ’s for our after party. Every single thing this band did was perfect!  Emily sung for me as I walked down the aisle and I can’t even tell you how many guests said they got goosebumps and or started to cry. Between Emily’s beautiful voice and the wonderful guitar and keyboard player, my ceremony was the most surreal and beautiful it could have been. They rocked it out at cocktail hour and then they KILLED it during the reception. I had a packed dance floor for the entire four hours- it was crazy! My husband and I still can not get over how much they sound like the artist they were singing.  They all are just so talented- the best of the best. Music is such a HUGE factor at a wedding, and they gave me my dream wedding!

Vera said…NY Orchestras Entertainment provided the beautiful strings for the wedding ceremony and the cocktail hour. And the band played at the reception. All of it was awesome and amazing. You can be sure that your event will be successful with them entertaining your guests. One of our guests said that it was like listening to the original performers. The NY Orchestras are fondly known as ‘The Family Band’ because this is the third wedding they have played at for us – me, my niece, and my nephew.

The first thing we heard when we got back from our honeymoon was how GREAT our band was! Bill and NY Orchestras gave us a party that was more than we could have imagined – they listened to our requests, made great suggestions, and kept people of all ages on their feet all night. We ourselves had a blast too- thanks for a great party!!!

Wow! After being referred to by a few friends who had seen the Central Park Orchestra at a few weddings we made an appointment with Bill to get the scoop. He is so friendly, and really knows the music industry. They make it a point NOT to play the typical corny wedding songs (unless that is what you want of course) and their female lead singer Emily has a set of pipes of her like no other! We had a 4.5 hour reception and our guests were on their feet dancing for every. last. minute. I was nervous using a band over a DJ in the beginning of the planning process but once they got started I knew we made the right choice – our reception had an energy that no DJ could have duplicated. They were WONDERFUL!

They were an amazing wedding band! Everyone was dancing and having a great time and people who don’t normally stay late or dance stayed and danced the whole night.

Also, their professionalism and attention to details was fantastic! During the best man speech my husbands drunk uncle decided he wanted to give an impromptu speech (not something that had ever occurred to me to happen) and the band wouldn’t give him the mike saying just the speeches and order that we had discussed a few weeks earlier. This was a huge relief and again not something i had warned them or asked them to prevent they just carried out the evening as planned which was looking back a relief and appreciated!

Pairing the right ensemble with your choice of wedding ceremony music is one of our specialties.

New York Orchestras STRING QUARTETS and CUSTOM CLASSICAL ENSEMBLES perform traditional music of Bach, Beethovan, Pachelbel, Mozart, Handel and Vivaldi as well as pop music of The Beatles, Billy Joel, Katy Perry and Led Zeppelin.  They can perform music from Broadway Shows, Movie Soundtracks and even Video Games such as Land of Zelda, Final Fantasy and Super Mario Bros.

Our highly skilled professional string players have backed up famous artists such as Sarah Brightman for her TV concert appearance, “Fashion On Ice” broadcasted on NBC television.

Musicians From Band: If you are having a live band you may also choose musicians from the band for your wedding ceremony.  Typically your choices would include keyboards, flute, acoustic guitar and trumpet.  Any combination of those instruments can work.  Again, all of this is based upon the music selections.

NOTE: It is cost-effective to have the musicians who perform at the ceremony also perform at the cocktail hour.

Historic American Wedding Venues

Central Park Orchestra just performed at a wedding for the owner of a beautiful historical Inn. The Olde Mill Inn in Basking Ridge, NJ is over 200 years old.  It stands as a classic American Inn located on a property originally owned by William Penn.

The inn has 102 guest rooms, plenty enough for wedding guests.  NY Orchestras Entertainment provided some room ambient lighting to enhance the beauty of the Grand Ballroom with wireless LED fixtures (as pictured below).

Robert Todd Lincoln, son of President Abraham Lincoln, built his Georgian Revival mansion in 1905 in the scenic village of Manchester Vermont. It became home to only Lincoln descendants until 1975. Now the house is a Lincoln museum and there is a tent on the property where weddings are held. The wedding ceremonies take place in the gardens overlooking a Green Mountain valley.

Wedding ceremony at Hildene

This summer New York Orchestras Entertainment performed at 3 weddings at Hildene.  East Village Orchestra played there earlier in the summer and Central Park Orchestra just did a wedding there this past Saturday.

Greenwich Wedding Couple Hits High Note!

New York Orchestras wedding band, Central Park Orchestra performed at a wedding this past Saturday evening at Riverside Yacht Club in Greenwich, CT.  The view was spectacular and the party was “over-the-top” great!  One of the highlights of the evening was, believe it or not, during dinner.  Four of the members of the band were singing and playing the song “Drift Away”.  Bandleader Bill Messinetti saw the bride and groom singing and took a wireless microphone to their table.  Bill, Amber (bride) and Alex (groom) were singing along and before you knew it every guest was singing “Give me the beat boys and free my soul, I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away”.  Some were waving votive candles and swaying back and forth like they were at a concert.
