American Museum of Natural History

New York Orchestras Entertainment provided musicians/entertainment twice at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City this past week. One was a charity organization and the other was a major New York hedge fund holding their annual holiday corporate event.

The entertainment included an awesome group, the West African Percussion Ensemble.  They performed in the Akeley Hall of African Mammals.  The guests were blown away by the presentation of that group in that room.  Fantastic!

Central Park Orchestra, the NYO jazz quartet and Freddy Martin (of the Martinis) also were part of the entertainment.

Meg Ryan & John Lee wedding pics go LIVE on Twitter!

What a great time everyone had at Meg and John’s wedding this past Saturday. They both work in New York City and the wedding was held on Long Island. Central Park Orchestra was the wedding band that provided the music. Kyle and Larissa from New York Orchestras Entertainment were doing our first live tweet session from a wedding. They did a great job! Larissa took the photos and Kyle posted them on Twitter. Very Exciting. The response has been terrific.

Meg graduated from the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania. We got some great shots of the girls from “the U” on the dance floor.

If you want to visit our Twitter page go to @NYOrchestra.

Great “cutting edge” fun!

See you soon!

New York wedding orchestras/bands on summer tour.

NEW YORK ORCHESTRAS entertainment have been very busy this summer working with fantastic wedding planners and performing at some of the finest wedding venues in the USA. Our musicians, wedding bands and DJs have performed in Hotels and lofts in New York City, mansions on Long Island and Upstate New York, on the beaches of the Hamptons, the shores of Lake Champlain, the banks of the Hudson, in the Adirondack Mountains of New York, Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania and the Green Mountains of Vermont. It is our pleasure to share some of them with you.

To start off, we have done several events in Vermont at two different locations:
Hildene is the former Lincoln family estate owned by the president’s son. Set in the Green Mountains of Manchester, VT. It is now an historic site that hosts weddings. The views from the gardens where wedding ceremonies are held are spectacular! Cocktails are served at the main house while the reception is held in a tent adjacent to the mansion. The band Central Park will perform there again in September and October. www.hildene.org

Shelburne Farms is quite a bit further north just south of Burlington, VT. The property is set along the coast of Lake Champlain with spectacular views of the Adirondack Mountains. Weddings are held in The Coach Barn. With a wedding ceremony in part I of the barn, European style dining in part II, the dancing took place in part III that borders the stables – former stables, there are no horses there anymore. The bride and groom met at the University of Vermont where the band Phish was formed. So, of course we had to oblige them to a couple of Phish and Grateful Dead songs. This party did not have typical wedding song repertoire requests.

Oheka Castle is the 2nd largest private home in the USA owned by the Melius family. You can catch views of the castle on the TV show ‘Royal Pains’. If you want to be the “king & queen of the castle” for a day, this is the only place to be. There was a string quartet performing classical music for the garden ceremony, the jazz trio playing Gatsby era standards in the lounge for cocktails and a 12-piece wedding band/orchestra in the main ballroom for dancing. Since performing at the wedding of Kelly Melius, our company has naturally been recommended to scores of Oheka brides.

The Plaza Hotel If dancing on one of the most famous dance floors in the world and walking where the rich and famous and kings and queens have walked strikes your fancy, The Plaza is a great option. With balconies and gorgeous décor, staging and lighting handled by Bentley-Meeker, the grand ballroom looked fabulous (and the sound was even better). The12-piece band combined with 8 violins to form a 20-piece orchestra. When the bride and groom danced to Frank Sinatra, sung by Freddy Martin (of Freddy Martin & The Martinis) for their special dance, real violins played the string parts. Many of the songs requested came from the playlist of THE Royal wedding.

Pridwin Hotel is located on Shelter Island which is an island between the north and south forks of eastern long island. The north fork is famous for being the home to many vineyards while the south fork is famous for the Hamptons and Montauk. Pridwin has views overlooking the Peconic Bay. As the band was rocking out guests witnessed an amazing sunset.

Locusts on Hudson
is a private estate and retreat on the banks of the Hudson River owned by renowned hotelier André Balazs. When we arrived the party was still going on from the rehearsal dinner on day one. The bride and groom rented the estate for the weekend and had 25 guests stay with them at the mansion. Day two was the actual wedding and day three was the poolside brunch.

Midtown Loft & Terrace in midtown Manhattan, host’s rooftop wedding ceremonies and cocktail hours with incredible New York City views – the terrace. One flight down to the main wedding reception in, you guessed it, the loft. This high-ceiling loft was decked out with funky colored furniture and bright floral designs to contrast the all-white floor-to-ceiling paint. This bride was the maid of honor at her friend’s wedding in 2008. She sent us an email promising to hire Central Park Orchestra to perform at her wedding, when she “finds a groom”. Well, she kept her promise.

Woodloch Pines is a family resort nestled in the Pocono Mountains in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Here the wedding ceremony takes place on a private lake, the cocktail hour on an outdoor deck and the reception takes place inside the Inn at Woodloch. The Inn has all glass on one wall of the ballroom that also let’s you view the lake.

Upcoming events include the Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia and the American Museum of Natural History in NYC.

Special thanks to the wedding professionals we have been working with. You are some of the best event and wedding planners, catering directors and wedding venues in the business!

Drummer Extraordinaire/The Man!

That is how the letter we received today was addressed. The following is the exact content from a very enthusiastic mother and father of the bride:

Dear Bill:

How else to describe Lisa & Derek’s wedding reception…the party rocked!

Bill, you and your band outdid yourselves Friday night at the Glen Island Harbour Club. Your energy was electric, and the crowd was left begging for more. From your homage to Glenn Miller (as requested) and your spectacular drum solo, to a fabulous rendition of Lady Gaga, the music was exceptional! Our guests crowded the dance floor all evening – we’re not even sure anyone ate the food!

The mark of a great party is the response of the guests, and anyone could see by the number of people on the dance floor, that they were most appreciative. We received so much great feedback about your band during the reception and in the days following – many said it was the most fun they’d had at a wedding. Everyone at the party was up on their feet dancing, and dozens of our guests remarked on the quality and range of your performance. When the party was over, they sure didn’t want to see you go. Thanks for the encore.

Central Park Orchestra is now the backdrop to two of our daughters’ weddings and we now consider you a part of the family. Thanks for your enthusiasm. Thanks for your professionalism and outstanding talent. And most of all, thanks for a wonderful memory.

Best regards,
Carolyn & Keith B…

Oheka Castle features New York Orchestras Entertainment at Bridal Show

The historic Oheka Castle in Cold Spring Hills Long Island hosted their semi-annual bridal show this past Thursday. This sight has hosted celebrity weddings, Victoria’s Secret photo shoots and the TV series, Royal Pains. The bridal show gives up and coming bride’s and grooms the opportunity to meet some of the best wedding vendors and wedding event planners in New York City and Long Island.

Participating vendors included weddings bands and orchestras, wedding event planners, wedding photographers & videographers, and a fashion show. There was live music featuring Central Park Orchestra who performed two high-energy sets of all kinds of music from today’s hits to yesterday’s classics. This band has performed at Oheka Castle more than any other band in the wedding industry. Central Park performed for the wedding of Kelly Melius, daughter of the castle’s owner, Gary Melius.

Elegant event lighting designs and unique event decor adorned Oheka’s dining room and ballroom. Exotic furniture and state-of-the-art event lighting transformed various rooms. Whichever location your wedding takes place these wedding event specialists can transform your space into something really interesting and unique.

You can view some of the images captured by resident photographer, Rocco from Camelot Studios and videographer David from DMS Video Productions

Plaza Hotel New York City: Ultimate 20-pc. NY Wedding Band

The wedding of Jennifer and Philip was held at The Plaza Hotel in New York City. The couple hails from the Washington, D.C. area but, decided a NYC wedding at The Plaza was what they desired.

The ambiance was amazing – uplighting, staging, decor, and even the wedding cake which looked like a bronze Grecian urn planter with edible flowers. Each piece of cake that was served was topped with an edible flower. There was even an area in the grand ballroom decorated to look like Cleopatra’s den which housed the cake.

Grecian Wedding Cake

The wedding music was incredible coming from Central Park Orchestra. They had what you normally expect to see and hear in a wedding band – drums, keyboards, guitar, bass, percussion and 3-piece horn section and 4 front singers. In addition to the 12-piece band was an 8-piece string section. This is not your typical New York wedding band. This is a wedding orchestra on a grand scale. So, when Freddy Martin sang Sinatra, the strings from the Nelson Riddle arrangements were played. When the couple danced the waltz for their special dance, real strings were bowed.

We will have more to come on this wedding when we get some pictures and video from Camelot Studios and DMS Video Productions who were on hand to capture this incredible wedding, New York City style.

Central Park Orchestra “Rocks” the Mountain

On Saturday June 25, Central Park Orchestra, a band usually associated with music for weddings or wedding band, performed on top of Masthope Mountain in Lackawaxen, Pa. The ski lodge, usually filled with skiers and snowboarders, was packed with mountain residents that came out to dance and party. As you gazed over the stage where the band was playing you could see the Pocono and Catskill mountains in the background through the lodge windows.

Out of the couple of hundred people who were in attendance, there were actually several couples that had the band play at their weddings in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Robert Holmes, manager of the Iroquois Hotel in New York City, was in attendance. Central Park performed the music at Robert’s wedding at the Pleasantdale Chateau in New Jersey. Robert even called the NY Orchestras office on Monday to say what a great time he and his wife Jennifer had. “I was so happy to be able to hear you guys and really listen because my wedding went by so fast. I can’t believe how you go from Pink and Katy Perry to Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin. It was fantastic! I felt like I was in the first row at a concert.”

Earlier that day the band performed at Woodloch Pines, a world famous resort in the Poconos. Bill Morgan Messinetti, bandleader for Central Park, helped Dorothy and Paul Bakos plan their wedding at Woodloch. The Bakos’ expressed their thanks for the several special requests the band learned for the nuptial.

Many thanks go out to the staff at Masthope Mountain Community and the owners of Woodloch Pines, Bob and John Kiesendahl, for their hospitality.
