Keep the Party Rockin’ – NY Wedding Music

We just got back from our honeymoon.

Bobby and I can not thank you and your band enough for your performance at our wedding! We warned you we would have a wild crowd and you kept everyone on the dance floor all night. You have amazing insight on what will keep the party rockin’ and delivered above and beyond anything we could have imagined. You’re truly a talent group of people who are wonderful at what they do. Please pass along my heartfelt thanks to the entire band. We’d love to prepare a more formal RAVE REVIEW for you. I will work on it in the upcoming weeks and pass it along.

Thank you again! You’re were a pleasure to work with.

Central Park Orchestra Rocks the Jersey Shore

Central Park Orchestra performed music at a New Jersey wedding at a beautiful waterfront venue – Clark’s Landing Yacht Club in Point Pleasant.  The view was spectacular and so was the wedding.

Here are quotes from the parents:

Beyond fabulous!  Everyone was raving about the band.  They would still be dancing if we didn’t make them go home…Harriet Greenberg

Bill-Thanks- When my other son gets married- will most definitely call you.  I thought your band rocked the party!!  The feedback has been incredible.  If you ever need a reference feel free in contacting me – Sincerely Scott Greenberg

Long Island Wedding at Gurney’s – music by New York Orchestras

Central Park Orchestra performed for a wedding this past Saturday night at Gurney’s Inn.  The beachside resort is located in Montauk, LI and is family-owned and operated.  There were plenty of Broadway dancers filling the dance floor because the bride is one herself.  Currently, she is the choreographer for the Broadway show Billy Elliot.  The groom is also a Broadway guy of a different type.  He works the set changes for the Broadway show Jersey Boys.

“With all of the contacts they have we were quite flattered when Mary and Rick chose our band” says bandleader Bill Morgan Messinetti.  “The crowd was exciting to watch and their enthusiasm was contagious.”

A sign of how successful the party was when Gurney’s family member and head chef Angelo “Chip” Monty inquired about recommending New York Orchestras for future events.

Bill Messinetti Produces Instrumental Reggae Album

Neil Jason – bass

Timmy Cappello – saxophone

Planning Your Wedding – Booking Wedding Entertainment

Usually the first phase to planning a wedding is choosing a date and a location/venue.  Most brides and grooms desire a Saturday evening.  You will find these are the first dates to go.  So, if you are planning to book a Saturday it is better to book early.

Once you have the date and a venue, the next item on the agenda should be the entertainment, band, orchestra, DJ, whatever your choice is.  Why?  Because that is the usual protocol and if you don’t follow suit, as time goes by you will have fewer choices.

Wedding ceremonies:  If you are having a church wedding chances are the church has their own ideas about musician choices so, check with the church director.  If your ceremony takes place in the same venue as the dinner reception (catering hall, synagogue, country club), then the entertainment company can provide the musicians.

There are usually two directions wedding couples choose:

1) Classical musicians such as string quartets or trios and instruments like a harp, piano, violin, or a flute.

2) Band musicians such as a pianist accompanying a flutist.

When choosing a classical ensemble such as a string quartet consider whether you need a sound system to amplify them.  Some of the parameters that you should consider are if your ceremony is outdoors and/or if you are having a large guest list.  Ask your event planner or music coordinator if they can provide extra microphones for the officiant as well as for the bride and groom.  That way everyone can hear your special vows.

Cocktail Hour:  Whomever performs at your ceremony will probably perform at your cocktail hour.  In some of the larger venues that have multiple rooms, such as Oheka Castle in Cold Spring Hills, NY, I would recommend having musicians perform in two different areas – maybe a string quartet and a jazz trio.  Perhaps the venue has a grand piano that you can take advantage of, such as Carlyle on the Green in Bethpage, NY.  The Carltun in East Meadow, Long Island has two pianos.  One is in the foyer (guest arrival area) and the other is in the cocktail room.  Grand pianos create an elegant ambiance.

Dinner Reception:  The two obvious choices for music at the main event are a band or DJ.  That is a personal choice.  You may not have thought about having both.  The band and DJ can alternate sharing the same standard 4-hour time slot.  If you are having an after-hours party then, the band can perform for 4 hours followed by an hour or two of the DJ.

If you are working with a professional with many years of experience, you will not be fazed by the process.  He or she will be able to give good productive and provocative advice.

New York Wedding Bands & Orchestras

It can be confusing looking for a band to perform at your wedding.  I would like to clear up some confusion as to orchestra vs. band.

Wedding Band or Wedding Orchestra

Some groups call themselves wedding bands because they are a band that came from the night club scene.  The groups that call themselves wedding orchestras tend to have a history of mostly performing at weddings.  The two are very different.  A band that does night club gigs plays a pre-determined set list based upon the type of club it is – rock, hip-hop, techno, blues, etc.  Their set does not change according to the audience reaction.  Of course, there are exceptions to the rule.  But, generally I have found this to be true.

A band that calls themselves an orchestra is used to performing for a wide range of ages and ethnicities that all want to dance.  So, the play list should change according to audience reaction.  If the guests pack the dance floor for Adele then, the band can play more similar songs.  Contrary to that, if the guests don’t react well to a Phish song then, you probably want the band to change genre.

There are New York City (NYC) wedding bands and NYC wedding orchestras that can be different from New Jersey (NJ) wedding bands and NJ wedding orchestras.  the same difference between those and Long Island (LI) wedding bands and LI wedding orchestras.

It is okay to ask the bandleader whether the band plays more night clubs or weddings.

Latin singer Gregorio Uribe appears on CNN

New York Orchestras Entertainment’s Gregorio Uribe just released his new album entitled ‘Pluma y Vino’.  Born and raised in Bogota, Colombia his Latin roots are very apparent on this music collection.  His new album is a change from the big band sound on his last album to an intimate acoustic quartet.

The album has garnered attention from CNN en espanol.  You can view the video of the appearance on youtube

Gregorio’s vast Latin repertoire as a vocalist has been witnessed at many New York City weddings.  Not only can he sing great he also plays accordion, guitar and Latin percussion.  New York Orchestras has added him to bands such as Central Park Orchestra and Freddy Martin & The Martinis for weddings and corporate events.  He is also available with his band as a self-contained Latin quartet.  Their style ranges including music from Colombia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Brazil and Spain.

Whether you are looking for a New York wedding band with a Latin flavor or having a corporate event and want a Latin music presentation, Gregorio can deliver.  He travels outside of New York City.  One of his CD release parties was in Boston and he will also be traveling to Colombia this month to promote the record album.
